Introduction, a blog by Flash Gordon Photography
Shoot # 2 – a reminder, this is the shoot of the Calendar for the Play, ‘Calendar Girls’, being put on by Stage Door Theatre Company this August. A donation from the proceeds of the sale of the calendar will go to NZ Child Cancer Foundation, and is also a great way of celebrating the ladies in our community. Each month is sponsored by a local business and we thank them for their support. Most, but not all, of our models also appear in the Play.
With each ‘month’ that we photograph I’ll be producing a blog. The months will be in the order of either the availability of the shoot location or the model. This month’s sponsor is Nia Dance.

Shoot # 2: April
My partner in crime (Les Robinson) ‘otherwise engaged’, I enrolled the lovely Trudie Smith to come along and help with the next shoot. Nude Tai Chi!! We found a hill with a view that was ‘not overlooked,’ (almost) where we hoped our model would be happy to de-robe (and not notice the neighbours).
Reminded that our model was a dancer, I felt confident that she would achieve the Tai Chi shot beautifully. Trudie and I tried the pose out (fully clothed of course!) and to overcome the problem of a nude backside I whipped my scarf off which in the actual shoot would be beautiful draped around our model’s posterior and floating in the breeze – well that was the general idea.
Our model arrived – looking indeed lithe and beautiful and we set to. Bless her heart, she was so patient. The wind blew in the wrong direction and we were continually fussing with her arms, too straight, too bent, too high, too low, turn an inch or two this way – noooo too far, and so it went.
Finally we felt we got the shot. Undoubtedly relieved that it was all over, our beautiful model, being a dancer – did what dancers do – she danced! Thankfully I still had the camera in my hand and knocked off a couple of great shots that, right now, are threatening to replace our carefully thought out and choreographed tai chi shot.
