Calendar Girls: Shoot # 13 – January

Wine and Music

Introduction, a blog by Flash Gordon Photography

The Final Shoot: We gathered at Jo’s house, the fire was warm, the wine was ready and the piano was waiting for today’s model.

I can’t believe it’s all over. It’s been a lot of work, but such a lot of fun too, with some very brave ladies. I hope we manage to raise some funds for the Stage Door’s chosen charity with our calendar sales.

The calendar is on sale now around Kerikeri. It’s a great way to support both our community and a very worthwhile cause. A donation from the proceeds of the sale of the calendar will go to NZ Child Cancer Foundation, and this is also a great way of celebrating the ladies in our community.   Each month is sponsored by a local business and we thank them for their support. Most, but not all, of our models also appear in the Play. The sponsor for this month is Kainui Vineyard.

The last shoot: January

This evening’s shoot is ‘the piano’ shoot, accompanied by some lovely Kainui wine.

As usual, we tested the shot first, which did mean pouring a glass of yummy Kainui Syrah 2015. However, we had to reframe from drinking it as the wine and was needed for our shoot. How hard was that! ( Very).

Jo banished her husband and boys into their rooms so we could have some privacy for the shoot. Curtains drawn – it was cozy, warm and private. Whilst we waited for tonight’s model we checked out the images from yesterday, and chatted about the marketing strategy..

Jocelyn arrived and we checked the set out with her in place and clothed. We needed to make a few alterations and get the shoot done so that the ladies could get to rehearsal. This was the last shoot for the Calendar, and I have met some lovely ladies. I feel confident that the show will be a great success and I look forward to seeing it.

As well as the fundraising calendar, $5 from each ticket sold will be donated the NZ Child Cancer Foundation, as will a donation from the sales of the Calendars. What a great opportunity to see a moving, yet humourous play, whilst at the same time donate towards a worthy Charity.

Shoot # 12: December

Les and I just had time to pick up some sunflowers, Christmas Hats (and coffee) as we made our way to the second shoot of the day.

We arrived at an absolutely awesome property for our Christmas shoot.   A  beautiful grand piano awaited us, together with a decorated Christmas Tree (many thanks to Jo Danilo for the tree, and Wendy at Puttsgreen Florest for the decoratins), and we set about a bit more furniture rearranging.   As this was a bigger shoot, I increased the lighting set up and waited for our 11 models to arrive.   Our host was very interested in the proceedings, and we suggested the he might like to make himself scarce before our ladies bared all!   Next to arrive on the scene was Peter de Graf from the Northern Advocate.   I think the idea of eleven nude women of a ‘certain age’ was even too much for Peter and we quickly arranged to have a “pre de-robing” media photo of all our lovely Calendar Girls before we got into the December shot.

Peter departed and we got on with arranging the ladies around the piano for the Christmas shoot.   Jackie (producer for the Play) attended this shoot, and I was grateful for her help, our ladies were a little ‘excitable and chatty’.  It’s a challenge to say the least, to keep 11 people absolutely in position and smiling in-sync.   We had to rearrange the ladies several times to enable us to see each and every one of them – and then to only see what we needed to see!

Shot finally done and dusted, I showed the ladies their Calendar shots before we go to print, and went about the business of packing down.

The day with Stage Door not quite finished, I attended a rehearsal of the ‘Photography/Nude’ Act to advise on placement of props etc.   It was great to see the Play making progress – the ladies are fabulous, it is going to be such a great show!.

One more shoot to go then we are done.   I’ll miss Les and the the girls, its been a great experience.
